Summer Undergraduate Research Institute

The Summer Undergraduate Research Institute brings college students to Rutgers-Newark for a one-of-a-kind opportunity to conduct original lab research with our award-winning faculty. The program is designed for undergraduates in STEM fields who plan to pursue graduate programs or medical school after graduating.

The seven-week Institute is ideal for those students looking to expand their horizons with hands-on-research experience. Program participants are assigned to labs in a range of fields, including Kinesiology, Psychology, Mathematics, Cell Biology, Herpetology, Geology, Neuroscience, and Atmospheric Chemistry. At the end of the summer, program participants share their research and findings with our campus community.

In addition to their research, program participants also engage in weekly seminar meetings on cutting-edge topics in scientific discovery, ethics and professional development, and the graduate school admissions process. Group activities are also planned to immerse students in the scientific and research community in our region. And we also have fun!

This program will be in-person for Summer 2024. Participants will be required to comply with university health and safety protocols.
